Julien and Claudia voyage through a mysterious landscape of city, nature, and industrial ruins as they set out to find an inherited plot of land. Crossing boundaries between dramatic fiction, minimalist narrative, and magical realism, The Edifice takes us on a digressive journey through the real, ambiguous, and intimate places that Claudia and Julien struggle to share.

With The Edifice I took a radical approach to exploring the expressive potential of space (place, setting, or ambient environment) by treating it as character. I experimented with how it could be shifted to the foreground, replacing “plot” as a principal narrative device.
With a particular sensitivity to ‘environment’, my art and films are basically a poetic exploration of paradoxical relationships (like presence and absence for example). Through the re-creation of emotional and psychological landscapes, my desire is to give form to alternate, often fragile or ambiguous, perspectives that we normally take for granted. In this respect, I am trying to express an emotional truth about our human need for structure and orientation.
